UK & IRELAND – 6-WEEK EURAILING PACKAGE

Spend 6 weeks on the most epic vacation around the UK and Ireland. Famous for its rural beauty and Guinness. Ireland is a great place to have the craic*. Add into the mix an opportunity to drop by some of the nearby historic cities of Edinburgh and Fort William in bonny Scotland and, of course, the buzzing metropolises of Liverpool and London, England. This is a real highlights package, taking you to the best of the best in Ireland and the UK.

What stops are on this Eurail route?

London

Kick-off your vacation across the UK and Ireland in London. The people of Britain may not have a great reputation for being very friendly. But this doesn’t apply to London due to the diversity of fascinating people that live here. Londoners work hard, but play harder and that has resulted in a bustling nightlife across the city. Similar to New York, there is a rich theatre scene here in London, so be sure to attend at least one show while you’re here! Hopping on a red, double-decker bus is the best way to see the famous landmarks of London such as Big Ben and Buckingham Palace.

Liverpool

Did you know that this city is the birthplace of The Beatles? But, there is so much more to it than that! The Scousers are some of the friendliest people you will ever meet and their accent is renowned worldwide. It may be hard to understand the language so be sure to learn some Scouse phrases! Sports fans can visit Anfield, Liverpool Football Club’s home ground, or play a round of golf on one of the region’s champion courses. Trust us when we say, shopaholics will be in heaven at Liverpool ONE.

Edinburgh

The main attraction and masterpiece of this city has to be Edinburgh Castle. You will be amazed by the architecture and viewpoint at both the bottom and top of the castle. Edinburgh is a city that knows how to host a festival, from the Fringe Festival and TradFest Dùn Èideann (a celebration of Scotland’s traditional arts) to beer, gin and vegan festivals. You will definitely not be short of something to do while you’re here.

Fort William

Indeed, Fort William is a magnet for lovers of the Scottish Highlands, especially for those who love the outdoors! Especially as it’s the outdoor capital of the UK! In this case, there is always something to do, no matter what time of year it is! Why not embrace the outdoors and do something different on this vacation across the UK and Ireland?

Glasgow

As Scotland’s largest city, Glasgow is a cultural epicenter and magnet for creatives. The people here are quite frankly, amazing! If you need directions, a helping hand, some recommendations of what to do and where to eat, the Glaswegians have you covered! With plenty of visitor attractions, parks, and nice hotels, there’s always something to do in this family-friendly city suited to all generations. From laid-back loungings to educational endeavors, there’s room for everyone in Glasgow!

Belfast

Despite the tragic end of the Titanic, Belfast residents are incredibly proud of their association with it and have a ‘Quarter’ and museum dedicated to the ship. Unlike the rest of Ireland, Northern Irish folks have a unique accent that may be difficult to understand, but that will not stop them from doing their best to show you a good time. Nonetheless, it’s a beautiful city! Covered in murals, demonstrating the difficult and wonderful times that Belfast has had over the last number of years. Before you go, take a tour to the Game of Thrones Filming locations, The Iron Islands, The Dark Hedges, Winterfell, and The Twins! (Ps, everyone you meet will tell you they have featured as an extra in the show).

Derry (Londonderry)

Without a doubt, the second-largest city in Northern Ireland continues to flourish as a cultural hub. In fact, the city center received a striking makeover for its year as UK City of Culture 2013! The Peace Bridge, Ebrington Sq, and the redevelopment of the waterfront and Guildhall area make the most of the city’s splendid riverside setting. Absorb the history from the minute you arrive, from the Siege of Derry to the Battle of the Bogside and Bloody Sunday.

Dublin

Ireland vacations are not complete without a stay in Dublin. Unlike other cities in Ireland, Dublin is always buzzing, no matter what day or time of the week. Hundreds of great bars in this city means you’re guaranteed to find a bit of craic* anywhere. As soon as you arrive, you will notice that there’s not a shortage of things to do here. Sip over a Guinness in Temple Bar, or better yet, visit the Guinness Store House. If Guinness isn’t your thing, do not worry, as you can also visit the Jameson Whiskey Distillery. The Kilmainham Gaol located here closed in 1924 and is one of the biggest unoccupied gaols in Europe!

Wicklow Way

In summary, Wicklow now part of a network of long-distance and self-guided walking tours. (Another chance for you to embrace the outdoors on your vacation across the UK and Ireland!) It combines a variety of scenic experiences, some of which are in truly remote upland areas. With mountains, glacial valleys and upland lakes, mountain streams and farmland, you’re sure to have a breathtaking experience. The Wicklow Way begins in Dublin’s southern suburb of Rathfarnham and travels in a south-westerly direction across the Dublin and Wicklow uplands, then through the rolling hill country of southwest County Wicklow to finish in the small, County Carlow village of Clonegal 127 kilometers later. A unique option for vacations in Ireland.

Cork

Another great stop on this UK and Ireland vacation is the culinary capital of Ireland. Before you visit this city, be aware that locals will encourage you to gorge on cheese, chocolate, and seafood, if you go to the English Market. Additionally, Cork provides you with an opportunity to experience life in the 19th and 20th century at the Cork City Gaol. It offers a unique insight into the history of Cork, both in and out of the prison walls. With amazing local tours, beautiful seaside towns and popular day trips such as the Titanic Experience, you will have a lot to cover in a few days! Ireland is filled with myths and magic, therefore you need to visit Blarney Castle. Home to the famous Blarney Stone, which according to legend, holds the power to bless anyone who kisses it with the ‘gift of the gab’.

Killarney

Undeniably, Killarney is your stereotypical Irish town and is one of the most picturesque towns on the South West of Ireland. For that reason, it’s on the list of things to do for tourists! Overall, Killarney is one of the perfect starting points for getting out to explore some of Ireland’s most beautiful natural attractions. So, be sure to have attractions such as Kerry Way walking trail, Ring of Kerry and Killarney national park on your list! Killarney is a great town with cozy pubs and a lot of stores sell local handicrafts. Vacations in Ireland require you to buy as many souvenirs as possible!

Tralee

Although Tralee is more engaged with everyday life than the tourist trade, it is still a down-to-earth town which makes it well worth a stop. Kerry’s number one holiday day destination, Banna strand is located in this county town, Miles of open, unspoiled and charming beach to walk along. Seeing that you will be spending a few days here, witness the postcard-worthy Dingle Peninsula on your very own guided tour! Follow the coastal trail on windswept cliffs and coastlines, where you will find fresh seafood and tips on where the locals go.

Galway

We are saving the best for last for your UK and Ireland vacation. Straightaway, you will understand why Galway attracts A LOT of visitors each year. Those tangled lanes lined with color shopfronts that curve around Galway Bay create that picture-perfect city. Formerly a fishing village, Galway has reinvented itself into a vibrant and bustling destination. The city is famed far and wide for its pubs alone! Join the friendly locals as they welcome you in with open arms and bounce from one pub to the next. One thing’s for certain, there is plenty of craic* to be had! Enjoy the high-spirited trad songs pouring from the pubs.
